Relay / fictional worked example
From validated slice to a releaseable product
On this page
The intake teaching example is not production-ready. Its passing tests establish a small set of behaviours, not release safety.
Readiness checklist (example)
Product
- Real users have evaluated the essential submission/ownership workflow.
- Positioning has been checked against relevant alternatives.
- The release scope reflects current evidence, including features deliberately removed.
Data and security
- Authentication and authorisation defined and tested.
- Tenant/site isolation proven for reads and writes.
- Input/output handling reviewed for sensitive information.
- Retention, deletion, access logging and required data protection obligations addressed.
Reliability
- Real persistent store implements the contract under concurrent writes.
- Audit events are durable and not silently lost (transactional strategy chosen).
- Duplicate/retry behaviour tested with real adapters and partial failures.
- External notification retries and failure semantics documented.
Operational
- Health checks, tracing, errors and actionable operational metrics are in place.
- Backups and recovery tested for applicable data.
- Rollback or safe remediation plan is available.
- Performance limits and expected load have been checked.
- Release owner accepts remaining risks explicitly.
Release as another learning step
Once released to an appropriate audience, operational behaviour and product use feed into the strategy, scope and architecture. A release does not end discovery; it provides a different class of evidence.
Decision rule
Do not convert a green unit-test run or multi-model consensus into a launch declaration. Define a releaseable outcome and the evidence appropriate to its risk.
